Trauma-Focused Self-Integration Therapy - Mar 9, 2027

Program Information

Trauma can continue to influence present functioning long after the original threat has ended. Individuals may experience persistent emotional, somatic, cognitive, and behavioural responses, while particular self-states may become activated in response to perceived threat, helplessness, shame, rejection, loss, or lack of control.

Trauma-Focused Self-Integration Therapy (TF-SIT) is a structured clinical model developed for working with trauma-related fragmentation and self-states while maintaining the Adult Self as the central position of awareness, regulation, and executive authority.

A central premise of TF-SIT is that trauma-related fragmentation can involve different types of self-states with different characteristics and therapeutic needs. The model distinguishes between Primary Fragments (PFs), which carry trauma-related experience, and Secondary Fragments (SFs), which may develop around or in response to Primary Fragments and may serve different functions within an individual’s psychological organization.

The therapeutic process begins with stabilization as Module 1 and proceeds through a structured sequence of work with the Adult Self and trauma-related fragments. The ultimate therapeutic aim is integration of Primary Fragments into autobiographical memory, supporting greater continuity and integration of the person’s sense of self.

This introductory workshop presents the conceptual and clinical foundations of TF-SIT. Participants will be introduced to the Adult Self, Primary and Secondary Fragments, non-merging, functional differentiation of Secondary Fragments, and the sequential structure of the TF-SIT treatment model.

By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • describe the basic conceptual framework of Trauma-Focused Self-Integration Therapy
  • explain the role of the Adult Self as the central organizing and executive position within TF-SIT
  • distinguish between Primary and Secondary Fragments as conceptualized within the model
  • describe the principle of non-merging and its relevance to trauma-focused treatment
  • describe the sequential structure of TF-SIT, beginning with stabilization and progressing toward integration
