Neurodiversity-Affirming Practice in Trauma-Shaped Systems: Sustaining Ethical Care Beyond Compliance - Feb 6, 2027

Program Information

What does it mean to provide truly
neurodiversity-affirming care when the systems surrounding our clients may not
always be affirming?

This interactive workshop explores the
intersection of neurodiversity-affirming practice, trauma-informed
care, and ethical responsibility
. Participants will examine how traditional
systems, expectations, and therapeutic approaches can unintentionally
contribute to masking, shame, compliance-based goals, and disconnection from
authentic identity.

Through practical examples, reflection, and
clinical application, participants will explore ways to move beyond simply
accommodating neurodivergent clients toward creating therapeutic relationships
grounded in autonomy, consent, curiosity, safety, and respect for
different ways of communicating, regulating, connecting, and experiencing the
world
.

The workshop will also address the
realities clinicians face when working within systems that may prioritize
compliance, behavioural expectations, or standardized definitions of progress.
Participants will leave with practical strategies for maintaining ethical,
affirming practice while navigating these systemic pressures.

Registration will be open until February 5, 2027
